Solid fundamentals

AT&T shows strong cash generation and a covered dividend, offset by leverage and low growth.

AT&T looks fundamentally solid for a mature telecom: cheap valuation (TTM P/E 7.90; EV/EBITDA 5.76) and strong cash generation (TTM free-cash-flow yield ~10.76%) support a ~4.64% dividend yield. Key watchouts are weak long-run growth (5Y revenue CAGR -1.60%), a low Altman Z-score (~0.95), and recent SEC-disclosed debt-funded spectrum spending that may increase leverage. Overall: Score 4 (solid, not “low-risk”).

Mixed sentiment

Media tone is neutral with no significant retail or regulatory catalysts identified.

Near-term newsflow is modestly constructive on AT&T’s announced Internet Air subscriber-growth update (2026-07-29) and the close of the EchoStar spectrum-license acquisition (2026-07-28), though both are likely partially digested. Media sentiment over the last ~14d is slightly positive and roughly flat vs the 30–90d baseline; legal scan shows routine litigation/regulatory headlines but no regulator-confirmed fraud investigation (no score caps).

Technical

Technical4
Countertrend bounce

AT&T is in a countertrend rebound within a strong downtrend, lacking a bullish setup.

Near-term trend is bullish: price is above the 20/50-day SMAs, 9/21-day EMAs, and daily VWAP, while RSI 60.36, MACD 0.38 above its 0.30 signal, and ADX 51.83 confirm positive momentum. The main caution is remaining below the 200-day SMA near 25.12 and late-July resistance overhead.
